Some news has recently emerged about Sony Ericsson’s OS plans on it’s next few phones after Swedish reporter Helen Ahlbom over at nyteknik.se interviewed Jan Uddenfeldt, Sony Ericsson’s new chief technology officer.
It seems that Jan announced that Sony Ericsson has no plans to launch any devices in the near future running the Symbian OS but rather focus on Android which seems to be the case with a lot of manufacturers at the moment, it’s “the in thing” right now.
Jan Uddenfeldt’s official statement was:
Android is definitely our focus, but we have not given up on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system, although it had a bit slow to take off, Windows 7 Phone is on the map. However, we have at present no plans for new products with Symbian”
You do have to remember that Sony Ericsson is still a part of the Symbian Foundation, and as such, personally I believe that they are waiting on the reaction to Symbian^3 before they decide what to actually do, which would make sense!
